| Customer Reviews: We like it, but be careful with the sail! February 15, 2010 JCRoberts (Virginia, USA) This is a really neat set . . . my 6YO and I can act out stories from the New Testament about Jesus and the disciples, and we can use the figures to represent almost anyone in the Bible, even from the OT. My 3YO enjoys putting the figures in the boat and taking them out of the boat, putting them in, taking them out, standing them up, knocking them down . . . :o) The only detraction is that the attachments that hold the sail to the mast are very small, and it only took one day for the sail to break off completely. Basically, the sail is removeable, and the way it attaches to the mast is by two small "pegs" that you push into two small holes - these pegs broke, leaving the pegs in the holes on the mast, the first time one of my children tried to remove it. We will superglue it, but we don't expect that to last long, either. Not sure what other way this could be designed, but surely someone will think of something!!
Versatile Bible story playset - tell lots of stories! August 1, 2009 Katherine Kincaid (McPherson, KS United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a great toy to use for teaching various Bible stories. Because it comes with 14 figures (all the disciples plus Jesus - I'm thinking the extra guy is the disciple who replaced Judas Iscariot?), you can use it to tell different stories about Jesus. Just use the figures to be whoever you need them to be - to tell the story of the Prodigal Son, the Good Samaritan, etc. The boat is a nice size and quite sturdy - all the figures fit easily into it with room left over. The sail is made of flexible plastic and looks like it will hold up despite toddlers playing with it. I already had a bunch of small plastic fish and just needed to add a net (could use a plastic net from vegetables or fruit) to tell the story of Peter and the fish. I borrowed the campfire from my Playmobil Nativity, and we were set to cook our fish! The figures are about 2 inches high - small enough for a toddler to grasp comfortably in his/her hand, but not so small they could be swallowed. I'd probably be careful using them with kids under age 3, though.
A pretty good value for the money; considering that you can get it for about $25. The smaller sets of figures (like Daniel & the Lions Den or David & Goliath have only 2-3 items per box) seem way over-priced at about $8.00. If they were priced comparably to the Jesus & boat set, you should be able to purchase 8 sets of the small boxes for $25 - and that doesn't even consider the cost of the boat!
